oh, dear.

i got as far as "only a rebellious woman"

this fella doesn't even allow us to claim ignorance, so why is he writing this? to put our keepers on notice that they must enforce modesty on our rebellious butts?

Lord, these people are scary.

I loved reading your post but I fear the needless covering of women may be on a return. The mothers of that FLDS cult in Texas are now making money selling their dresses on line. It seems that people are desiring a return to "modesty". While I support the different efforts of women to be economically independent it is troubling that the basis of this is conforming to gender apparel that is limiting to women.

I wandered over here from Shakesville. I like the pants post. I'm a historian (I work on 16th-17th century Britain) and your post reminded me of a book I'd read a while back, in which the author described how people in the early 1600s were really wigged out about the fact that some fashionable women were wearing men's hats and doublets (like men) with skirts. Same outcry, about how this was a sin, and a terrible thing, and would Bring Down The Wrath Of God, because no one would be able to tell men and women apart! A bad thing, if you can't tell who you should oppress . . .
